Preserving Family Heirlooms presented by Tina Beaird

Learn how to preserve valuable family documents, photos, fabrics and glass for future generations through proper storage and simple preservation techniques. Attendees will hear about archival products and discover preservation dos and don’ts for historic and modern scrapbooks.
Tina Beaird is owner of Tamarack Genealogy and is also Genealogy/Local History Librarian at the Plainfield Area Public L:ibrary. Tina lectures extensively on topics including Scottish resources, military research, and archival preservation. She is a member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild and the Association of Professional Genealogists as well as the First Vice President of the Illinois State Genealogical Society and director for the Oswegoland Heritage Association. She volunteers her time with several historical and genealogical societies across Illinois. Tina has provided research assistance for nearly 25 years and has been researching her family’s history, as time permits for over 30 years. Tina is a baseball fanatic and she and her family have visited 24 out of 30 Major League ballparks.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of long-time member Bill Brandes. Besides being active in the group, he set up and maintained our first website which has evolved into this one. We are grateful that he helped bring us into the 21st century. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 40W170 Russell Rd., Elgin IL 60124, from 1:00pm-2:00pm, with funeral services beginning at 2:00pm. The Elgin Genealogical Society is for any person who has an interest in genealogy, research or history.
Meetings are held at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, IL. on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am and the third Thursday at 7:00 pm except in December when the date, time, and location of the annual meeting is announced. It is always best to check this website or call the library at 847-742-2411 to check if schedule changes have occurred.
You do not have to be a member to attend any of our meetings, but when you become a member of EGS, you will receive special access to our Members Only area on our website where you can find all presentation handouts, plus all of our past and present newsletters.
